Your January Report Card


Does anyone else feel like January has lasted forever?

Apparently, we are not alone.  

The first month of the year is a time when we make our resolutions and when we begin failing at them. Whether we've resolved to hit the gym more often, go to bed earlier, or post to our brand new blog daily (oddly specific right?) there's a pretty good chance we've already fallen short of our goal.

Setting a New Year's Resolution used to seem like a complete cliche' to me. I would watch as people swore off alcohol, carbs and even swearing itself. Two months later, these same people would be chasing their burger with a beer and cursing themselves for doing so between bites.

Failing at resolutions seems to be as much a part of the tradition as setting them. 

Regardless, it's important to set goals. Seriously, if you're not already doing it, set a goal to start setting goals today. 

Start small. While I have overarching resolutions for 2018, I simplify them by splitting them into 12 concentrations, or one goal per month.

For January, my goal was to "pursue a passion." I give myself a B- for the month because I pursued passions - plural - and not nearly as many as I had planned. I can blame a sinus infection and the freezing NYC weather, or I can accept that I'm human and renew my resolution for the new month.

It's January 31st. Tomorrow is a new day. 

We are a never-ending self-improvement project. We can always be smarter, kinder, more disciplined.
